I Need To Do Some Research!

I found this on Facebook this morning and thought it was brilliant. However there are things mentioned here that I don’t even know about and I was raised Mormon. So I am going to do some research and bring you all a little insight on what this guy is talking about. I found it quite interesting. Enjoy!

“I just don’t understand how all the Mormons think they’re getting persecuted right now. You DID just call married same-sex couples apostates. You DID just ban their kids from joining your church. You have taken the action. The criticism you’re getting is a reaction.

FAIR WARNING, IF YOU ALREADY DON’T LIKE THE TONE OF MY WRITING, PLEASE TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU THAT YOU DON’T WANT TO CONTINUE. IT’S FOR THE BEST.

When we criticize your church it’s not because we hate you, it’s because we hate what the church has just done. The criticism is because we feel that these things are wrong, it’s not some personal vendetta against members.

We don’t bring up:
banning the kids of same sex couples,
or Joseph’s 14 year old brides,
or Joseph’s 32 other wives (two different mother-daughter pairs and 6 women married to other men, oh my!)
or Brigham speaking as a man not a prophet when he banned black people from heaven and temple blessings,
or that the next 9 prophets didn’t change that policy (don’t forget, not inspired policy, just Brigham’s personal racism),
or the mountain meadows massacre,
or the salamander letter,
or the at least 4 differing accounts of the first vision,
or the mistakes in the book of mormon,
or the changes in the book of mormon,
or the horses, sheep, steel, etc; in the America’s before Columbus
or the book of mormon witnesses only seeing the gold plates with their spiritual eyes rather than actually seeing them,
or the signatures of the witnesses being signed by someone else,
or Joseph’s guilty conviction of treasure digging with seer stones,
or the burning of the Nauvoo Expositor,
or Joseph and Hyrum’s guns that they had in Carthage jail,
or the lack of archaeological or DNA evidence,
or financial secrecy and giant for profit ventures of the church,
or Joseph’s personal fondness of alcohol,
or Brigham using his position as prophet to drive competitors out of business,
or changing tithing from being 10% of one’s EXCESS to 10% of one’s INCOME,
or the prophet lying on 60 minutes,
or the September Six,
or Brigham teaching blood atonement,
or Brigham teaching the Adam-God doctrine,
or the incorrect translation of the book of Abraham,
or the kinderhook plates,
or the seer stone in the hat,
or any other questions;
…we don’t bring them up because we’re hateful. We bring them up because it seems like the church has been wrong, dishonest, and hurtful. If you have nothing to hide there shouldn’t be any hard questions. If you have the truth, then there shouldn’t be any hard questions. If you are worthy of the trust you ask for, then there shouldn’t be any hard questions.”
